  • The production process for natural wood veneer generally includes the following steps:

    1. Material Selection: Premium logs are selected, requiring high straightness, intact heartwood, and free from defects such as cracks, insect damage, or decay. Length typically ranges from 2.2 to 3.8 meters, with diameter meeting slicing requirements.

    2. Debarking: Upon arrival at the mill, logs undergo debarking to remove bark and minimize impurities that could affect subsequent processing.

    3. Steam Softening: Employ low-temperature, slow steaming, typically maintaining temperatures between 60-80°C to prevent high heat from damaging the wood structure. Steaming duration is adjusted according to wood species. The purpose is to soften wood fibers for easier planing, reduce cracking risks, remove resin, minimize color variation, and achieve a more uniform veneer color.

    4. Veneer Slicing: Depending on decorative requirements, three techniques can be employed: flat-cut, rotary-cut, and radial-cut. Flat-cut veneer features straight, uniform grain patterns known as mountain grain. Rotary-cut veneer exhibits complex, varied grain patterns suitable for large panels, known as continuous random grain. Radial-cut veneer is produced by quartering the log and slicing it, resulting in straight, distinct grain patterns known as straight grain. Sliced veneers must be stacked in sequence to ensure continuous grain patterns, with thickness controlled between 0.1-1.0mm. 
     

    5. Drying: The moisture content of veneer directly impacts the quality of the finished product. Scientific drying techniques must be employed to ensure veneer stability. Thin veneer (less than 0.4mm) is processed using belt dryers to prevent wrinkling. Thick veneer (greater than 0.4mm) is dried in drum dryers to prevent cracking. The target moisture content after drying is typically 8%-12%.

    6. Inspection and Packaging: A rigorous quality grading system is implemented, classifying veneers based on quality, such as AA grade. Each roll consists of 24 veneer sheets, labeled with barcodes for traceability. Rolls are reinforced with black protective film and wooden battens to prevent damage during transport. They are stored in temperature- and humidity-controlled warehouses, shielded from direct sunlight and moisture.
